Till I’m To Old To Die Young

July 22, 2008

The Lord has blessed Barb and me with two wonderful children with a strong commitment to the Lord. While it was not always that way with our oldest, his spiritual commitment to the Lord has never been stronger. Allen (Jennifer) and Joyce have also blessed us with five wonderful grand children that are the light of our life. We are typical doting grand parents always ready to show pictures and brag on their accomplishments.

While we are proud of the young people they are, we are never more proud than when they make a commitment to Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Emily, Joyce’s daughter and the oldest of the five, made that commitment two years ago in June, and this past Sunday Lukas, made that great confession and I was blessed to baptize him into Christ. Luke is a straight A student in school, a 1st degree black belt in Karate, one of the most respectful kids I know, but most importantly, now a Christian.

A song by Moe Bandy comes to mind as I write this.

If life is like a candle bright death must be the wind
You can close your window tight and it still comes flowing in
So I will climb the highest hill and watch the rising sun
And I pray that I don’t feel the chill till I’m too old to die young

CHORUS
Let me watch my children grow to see what they become
Oh Lord don’t let that cold wind blow till I’m too old to die young

Now I have had some dear sweet friends I thought would never die
Now the only thing that’s left of them is the teardrops in my eyes
If I could have one wish today and know it would be done
Well I would say everyone could stay till they’re too old to die young

CHORUS
Let me watch my children grow to see what they become
Oh Lord don’t let that cold wind blow till I’m too old to die young

Let me watch my children grow to see what they become
Oh Lord don’t let that cold wind blow till I’m too old to die young

Thank you Father for the length of life you give that allows us to watch our children grow and now our grand children. Many don’t have this blessing and we are thankful!
