Till I’m To Old To Die Young

July 22, 2008

The Lord has blessed Barb and me with two wonderful children with a strong commitment to the Lord. While it was not always that way with our oldest, his spiritual commitment to the Lord has never been stronger. Allen (Jennifer) and Joyce have also blessed us with five wonderful grand children that are the light of our life. We are typical doting grand parents always ready to show pictures and brag on their accomplishments.

While we are proud of the young people they are, we are never more proud than when they make a commitment to Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Emily, Joyce’s daughter and the oldest of the five, made that commitment two years ago in June, and this past Sunday Lukas, made that great confession and I was blessed to baptize him into Christ. Luke is a straight A student in school, a 1st degree black belt in Karate, one of the most respectful kids I know, but most importantly, now a Christian.

A song by Moe Bandy comes to mind as I write this.

If life is like a candle bright death must be the wind
You can close your window tight and it still comes flowing in
So I will climb the highest hill and watch the rising sun
And I pray that I don’t feel the chill till I’m too old to die young

CHORUS
Let me watch my children grow to see what they become
Oh Lord don’t let that cold wind blow till I’m too old to die young

Now I have had some dear sweet friends I thought would never die
Now the only thing that’s left of them is the teardrops in my eyes
If I could have one wish today and know it would be done
Well I would say everyone could stay till they’re too old to die young

CHORUS
Let me watch my children grow to see what they become
Oh Lord don’t let that cold wind blow till I’m too old to die young

Let me watch my children grow to see what they become
Oh Lord don’t let that cold wind blow till I’m too old to die young

Thank you Father for the length of life you give that allows us to watch our children grow and now our grand children. Many don’t have this blessing and we are thankful!

The Promise

July 17, 2008

The Martins are one of my favorite singing groups. I first began to hear their music on the Gaither Homecoming Video series. They are touring on a limited basis again. Their tight harmony and obvious devotion to the Lord shine through in all they do. Here is a video that I put together with one of my favorite songs they do, “The Promise” Hope you enjoy. Oh, and thanks again Dottie for being my Samuela and finding this CD for me! (You would have had to have been there).

Thanks to my friend Jim Pounders for introducing me to this excellent story. While this is not exactly the same video he sent, this one gives a bit more detail. You will love it!

We Need Change…But What Kind Of Change

July 14, 2008

The political rhetoric if flowing. Few like the direction we are going in our country from a number of directions, but radical liberal change I fear will create a world in which our grand children will pay a heavy price. With out future comment I simply ask you to look at the following two videos for your grand children’s sake.

PRAY!

God Is In Control

I recently began a new class that I entitled, “The Fullness Of Time Had Come” subtitled, “A study of New Testament History and The World Into Which Jesus Came” Whew… I know that is a mouth full, but it was longer (-: (I have a support blog for this class HERE)

It has been such a blessing to watch the hand of God orchestrate the rise and fall of Kings and their Empires to prepare the world to be just the right world into which His Son would be born.

One thing has been made clear to me once again and that is God will use all men/women, regardless of their belief in or disbelief in Him, to accomplish His purposes. Man with his over inflated ego and sinful nature cries fowl. Charges of prejudice, selfishness and unfair are flung toward heaven. “Where is man’s free will”, they ask? Yet with calm resolve He continues to bring forth the fulfillment of His Devine purposes on the earth.

A second thing has been made clear to me once again and that is that God continues to use men/women, regardless of their belief in or disbelief in Him, to accomplish His purposes. I along with many other have lamented the lack of great choices in the upcoming presidential elections. “Where is the next Ronald Reagan”, when you need him? And yet with his continued calm resolve He continues to bring forth the fulfillment of His Devine purposes on the earth.

Through scripture he shows us His working in the hearts and wills of men. Through faith we know He continues to do so. It is often quoted, and still so very true, I may not know what the future holds, but I know who holds the future.

“remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning
and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand,
and I will accomplish all my purpose,’11 calling a bird of prey from the east,
the man of my counsel from a far country. I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass;
I have purposed, and I will do it.” Isa. 44:9-11
